Cape Town: A body of a female student believed to be from Stellenbosch University has been found after two students were hijacked on Friday night. It is alleged that the perpetrators drove off with the students, a male and a female, towards Kraaifontein where the male student managed to escape.
Sources close to the incident, who asked to remain anonymous, allege that the two students were hijacked at Bird Street on Friday night. The perpetrators then drove off with the two students, but the male student managed to escape in Kraaifontein however the female student could not.
According to the sources, “a body of a female person matching her description was found on Saturday afternoon, the student’s parents have been informed”. The student is believed to be from Irene Residence, however her identity could not be confirmed at this stage.
Western Cape Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed that two cases of attempted murder and hijacking are under investigation. Rwexana said “a body of a female student about 21 years old was found this morning at about 08h30 at Krorhoek road with injuries. The male victim who was with the deceased is being treated in hospital. The student’s VW Citi Golf car used in the hijacking has been recovered. Two suspects in their thirties have been arrested for being in possession of a hijacked vehicle. The investigation continues”.
Stellenbosch University had not yet responded at the time of publishing.
