Cape Town- 6 people were arrested on Friday in Town 2 near Khayelitsha after an attempted re-occupation of a vacant plot of land in the area.
The attempted re-occupation happened on Friday night after a 3 hour mobilization campaign around Town 2 that saw Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) and Fees Must Fall activists pledging their solidarity with the people.
The occupation of a vacant plot of land that is in the process of being transferred to the Khayelitsha Development Forum by the City of Cape has been a thorny issue for the Town 2 community, resulting in one death. Mthunzi ‘Ras Moziah’ was shot and killed on the 28th of May at the site of the occupation.
The Town 2 community and Izwe Lethu Community activists are expected to march to the local police station to deliver a memorandum of demands including the release of the arrested activists and an update on the investigation process of murdered activist, Ras Moziah.
