Student movement UWC FMF has called for the boycott of June examinations in that institution. This comes after a deadlock in the negotiations held by management and students over issues affecting the students and workers.
The movement released a statement on Monday morning calling for the boycott of exams after failing to reach an agreement with the university management. UWC FMF alleges that the management has negotiated with ‘bad faith and arrogance’. The issues stated include the dismissal of 144 Securitas workers, increase in rape incidents, NSFAS issues and lack of residence spaces. The movement said that the decision to boycott exams in protest against the failed negotiations was supported by its allies: SRC, CHC, PASMA and EFFSC.
The call for boycotting of examinations comes after Monday morning papers had to be cancelled after a fire extinguisher was used in the examination venue. No one has been charged for this incident and no one has come forward to claim it.
The student movement has called for a mass meeting this afternoon, 13h00, at the student center. The university had yet to respond at the time of publishing.
