Cape Town – Two men who were suspects in the murder case of Ras Moziah have been released. The two were released after the investigating officer said that there was not enough evidence to continue with the case.
The bail hearing of the two men charged for Ras Moziah’s death was set to be heard at the Khayelitsha Margistrate’s Court on Thursday, however it was cancelled before they could even appear. The investigating officer told the family that there was not enough evidence to proceed with the case, this was followed by the release of the two men who were charged. The cancellation of the bail hearing and release of the two suspects angered the family and comrades of Ras Moziah who had come out in numbers to see the two men accused of his death.
Ras Moziah was buried last weekend after he was shot at a land occupation in Town 2.The land occupation was started by Town 2 backyard dwellers mid-May.
The family of the deceased then went to Lingelethu Police Station to inquire from the station commmander just what the problem was. The station commander contradicted the investigative officer’s claim that the evidence was not enough to prosecute and confirming that indeed, the evidence and statements from state witnesses confirm that the two suspects are linked to the death of Ras Moziah.
The station commander appealed to the family to give him time to sort out what he described as a ‘crisis’. The release of the suspects means that the case is still under investigation.
