Cape Town- The University of Cape Town (UCT) has released a statement announcing the death of one of their students.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Daya Reddy, identified the student as 20 year old Tiyiselani Mpangane. “Ms Mpangane was found dead in her room at Obz Square on Tuesday evening, 8 August 2017. She is survived by her parents and a sibling” said Reddy. Mpangane was a 3rd year actuarial sciences student.
Online research shows that Mpangane had matriculated in 2015 from Eqinisweni Secondary School in Ivory Park, East of Johannesburg scoring 7 As in her subjects.
Mpangane’s mysterious death is all too familiar at the institution. Many students who die are usually found dead in their rooms without anyone knowing how it could have happened.
Professor Reddy said that details of her funeral and memorial services will be announced at a later stage.
The University has offered counseling services for both staff and students “Human Resources Department for staff members and the Student Wellness Service for students”, the statement said.
