Ekapa – Abasebenzi beDyunivesithi yaseKapa bagqibe ekuvaleni eliziko ngenxa yokuxhatshazwa ngabaqeshi.
Abasebenzi kunye nabafundi bebebambe intlanganiso kwiKhampasi eseZantsi emva kwemini Ngomvulo.
Funda ngezantsi isishwankathelo sezikhalazo zabasebenzi:
– Abasebenzi bakhalazela ukungaligani kwemivuzo. Abaqhubi beJammie bakwiklasi yesihlanu ngexa abacoci nabaphekayo bekwiklasi yesibini neyesithathu, oku kuvezwe yinkokheli yabafundi u-Athabile Nonxuba.
– Abasebenzi bakhalazela ukwenziswa umsebenzi abangawuqeshelwanga.
– Selebesuka nase CCMA bekhalazela ukuba abanye abasebenzi basetyenziswa iiyure ezisixhenxe nesiqingatha kodwa bahlawulelwa iiyure ezine.
– Abasebenzi bafuna oomama abakhulelweyo babonelelwe.
– Abasebenzi bayibona le mpatho mbi nefana nokuba bayangcikivwa okanye ukuxhatshazwa
– Inkokheli yemanyano yabasebenzi ithi bazimisele ukuxoxa nabaphathi bedyunivesithi kodwa bafuna idyunivesithi idize iinkqubo zayo zomvuzo namaqithi-qithi. Oku kulandela emva kokuba abaphathi baledyunivesithi befumene izigidi ezithathu zemali kumaqithi-qithi womnyaka-mali ophelileyo.

Cape Town – UCT workers have resolved to shut down the institution over what they described as exploitative labour conditions.
The workers and a group of students gathered at the University’s Lower Campus on Monday lunchtime to deliberate on various labour issues.
Below is a brief summary of the grievances workers alleging to being subjected to:
– Workers are contesting the wage package offered by UCT including overtime pay. Student leader Athabile Nonxuba raised the concern that Jammie Shuttle drivers are on pay class 5 while cleaners and kitchen staff are on Pay Class 2 & 3.
– There is a dispute on job description. Some workers are made to do work that falls outside their job mandate
– Workers have been to the CCMA to dispute working hours as some workers are paid for 4 hours while actually working for 7.5 hours hours.
– Workers appealed for gender justice for pregnant womxn.
– Workers feels exploited exploited, understaffed and overworked.
– Union leader says they are prepared to negotiate with UCT but they want UCT to disclose its wage and benefit structures citing concerns over income inequalities that recently came to light during the recent UCT bonus saga where UCT executive were awarded bonuses in excesses of close to R3 million.
Subsequent to these grievances the workers have committed to refrain from work on Wednesday after serving the institution with the required 48 hours written notice.
The workers have appealed for solidarity from students.
