English Summary:

Cape Town – Yet another UCT student has died in what appears to be a case of suicide. It is believed that the student jumped off one the buildings in Forest Hill Residence in Mowbray in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The student,  Lutendo Nwedo, was a third year Finance and Economics student. Her death was announced through an email to UCT students on Wednesday. Her death comes just days after another student, Ruddy Bigabwa, was found dead in his off campus residence last week. This student’s death is the sixth one at UCT in the past 6 months.

Details of her memorial service and funeral will be announced at a later stage.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, urged students in distress SADAG UCT Student Careline (0800 24 25 26), which is free from a Telkom line, or to SMS 31393 for a call-me-back. This line offers 24/7 telephonic counselling, advice, referral facilities and general mental health support to students.
