Bloemfontein – The University of the Free State SRC has urged students not to sit for their end of the year examinations until after they have physically and mentally recovered from a week of protest that saw 46 students arrested in the Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa Campuses on Friday.
In a statement released on Sunday night, SRC President Asive Dlanjwa said that they came to this decision after a consulting with the student body in a meeting held this afternoon at the EBW auditorium. Dlanjwa also announced that the students who were arrested on Friday have been released. It was not immediately clear whether this also included students from the Qwaqwa campus.
UFS students are protesting the recent fee increment of 12,5% by the university, including safety issues and wifi access.
