UCT student political grouping PASMA Phillip Kgosana branch denied the accusation levelled against it by DASO UCT concerning the removal of SRC Treasure General, Emma Johannson, from the student body. Read their full statement below:
THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF PHILIP KGOSANA PASMA RESPONDING TO DASO UCT STATEMENT
The Philip Kgosana PASMA Branch notes, with the contempt it deserves, allegations levelled against it by DASO UCT in their recent statement on the resignation of the former treasurer of the DASO led-SRC.
In the statement, the DASO UCT chairperson says that Ms Johansson was removed from the SRC by PASMA and EFFSC with the help of two DASO UCT SRC members. Yesterday the leadership of the branch had a meeting with its deployees in the SRC and was briefed by the SRC members of the developments within the SRC. What is clear for all to see is that the center is not holding. It is clear that the infighting that faces the DA in the Western Cape has trickled down to its student movement.
Contrary to they claims that Ms Johansson was removed from the SRC, this is simply untrue. Ms Johansson resigned from the SRC and the SRC went on to accept the resignation from Ms Johanson in their meeting on Friday afternoon. The failure to accept democratic decisions of the SRC after having participated in all the process of the meeting. They are Democrats who are unDemocratic and the irony is that PASMA deployees are the ones expected to be hooligans who would not adhere to democratic decisions.
Also, it is clear that DASO UCT has no control whatsoever over its own deployees into the SRC and as a way to deflect responsibility they want to drag the name of the glorious student vanguard to their own internal squabbles. To show this DASO UCT has failed to hold Ms Johansson to account over the deserting of her duties as SRC treasurer. The last time Ms Johansson was in the SRC offices was on the day of constituting meeting. If, indeed, Ms Johansson is sick and that is the reason why she has not been doing her job, then as PASMA we think that she took the correct decision to resign to give herself time to sort out her life, while at the same time not compromising the lives of many students. The SRC has been unable to process much needed bailout funds to students because the treasure of the SRC is not around.
It is also the same DASO led-SRC that contradicted itself recently over the issue of housing in the University, with the President of the SRC going on a rouge mission to claim that there is a crises in the University and that students must use the a rouge website to find accommodation which was later found was run by the former DASO UCT chair, Greg Keal, and later on the same DASO SRC distancing itself from statements by the President. These are all textbook signs that indeed, the center is not holding. DASO, just like the DA is in a fight with itself and instead of acknowledging this and dealing with their internal problems internally, they decide to drag PASMA into it. ASINGENI NDAWO!
DASO UCT must sort out their own crisis without having to drag other people as a way to avoid responsibility for their lack of leadership. They must go back to their dysfunctional branch and show some leadership, clearly they have not.
