Cape Town – The University of Cape Town (UCT) has denied allegations that staff who accompanied student leaders graduates into the graduation will face disciplinary action.
On Friday, UCT cleaning staff accompanied student leaders into the graduation hall as some of them were set be capped in the morning ceremony.
On Monday, a Whatsapp voice note sent by one of the affected workers to a student leader, surfaced expressing frustration about threats of possible disciplinary action for taking part in the celebrations and ‘disrupting’ graduation.
UCT has however denied the possibility of disciplinary action against the workers, but emphasized that “staff members are not permitted to leave their posts during working hours without authorization from their line managers”.
