DASO UCT has accused four UCT SRC members of misusing SRC funds for a trip to Johannesburg to lobby other SRCs to support the #DecriminalizeFeesMustFall campaign.
DASO fingered suspended DASO member and current UCT SRC Treasurer General, Christopher Logan, of enabling what they view to be wasteful expenditure on a “political scheme rather than spending it on assisting students facing financial exclusions, in need of hygiene supplies and food”.
The organization said that it would be writing to the Vice Chancellor to have the SRC accounts frozen in a bid to stop this trip.
On Friday, four SRC members were pictures on social media at the Cape Town Airport waiting for their flight to Johannesburg.
Masixole Mlandu said that the campaign is supported by the entire SRC and DASO members would not know this as they no longer attend SRC meetings.
Sihle Lonzi also dismissed these allegations saying “it’s a factually incorrect statement by a sad excuse of a student organization which is obsessed with rescuing its dying relevance on campus”.
Athabile Nonxuba, Christopher Logan and the SRC’s Secretariat had yet to respond to requests for comment at the time of publishing.
