Cape Town – The Pan Africanist Congress Movement of Azania (PASMA) has won the 2018/2019 UWC SRC elections.
Provisional results released on Thursday evening indicate that PASMA has won the elections by 7 seats while their political arch rivals the South African Students Congress (SASCO) managed only just 5 seats.
The fierce contest saw forty candidates from DASO, EFFSC, SASCO and PASMA battle it out for a seat in the twelve member student’s council. The EFFSC and DASO both failed to secure a seat in the elections.
SASCO has traditionally won student councils at the institution but over the past two years, it has had two wrestle with PASMA for power with the latter winning the 2016/2017 elections by 100%.
The outgoing SRC is made up of only SASCO members and the latest results indicate a shift from block voting and the student populace will see a mixed SRC for the first time in two years.
