Women That Lead- A South African black woman owned fashion house to host second annual fashion showcase with a twist in the name of community and giving back.

by Refentse Thathe.

Owned by Sisipho Krewu a designer herself, the business was started in 2016 and is based in Khayelitsha. The ‘Kasi Boutique’ offers custom made designs to “diverse individuals who are hungry for quality, unique designs and want to explore culture and color through clothing.”

Since inception, the brand has participated in a number of local events including Khayalitsha Fashion Week, and this year the fashion house will be hosting the second of what is now their annual event, titled this year “The Future and Beyond” following the success of their first independent event in 2018.
True to this year’s theme, Sisipho has envisioned a future in which collaboration and community is at the center of building a successful brand. As such, she has partnered with other local black owned businesses to create an evening of music, fashion, food and culture that guests can enjoy. The fashion show will showcase the latest designs from WTLdesigns, where afro pop music will be on play and live poetry performances will take place. To feed the soul, sweet treats by Khalaful Cakes and traditional meals, from steam bread to tripe catered by Goddess Caterers will be sold. Before the late afternoon event which is set to begin at 15h00, those interested in beauty and make-up can take part in the workshops offered by Havilla Beauty between 10am-12pm.
Not to be missed, at the heart of the festivities is a call to collectively give back.  In support of the work of Mkhulise Foundation, donations of sanitary products and toiletries will be collected and donated to young girls and boys at various schools in the Eastern Cape as part of a drive in early September, so don’t forget to bring something along when attending this event or make a drop off if you can.
The invitation is still open to brands that want to be part of this event and further sponsorship is welcomed. Tickets for the event happening on the 24th August 2019 are available now at Shoprite, Checkers or online at Computicket.
