About us

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”Nelson Mandela

Our History:

Vernac News NPC, or “Vernac”, is an online non-profit media company. The company was formed during a critical time in South Africa’s university space, just before the #FeesMustFall movement, where young people felt their voices went unheard not just from a young perspective but from a language perspective.

We at Vernac create, source and publish content focusing on youth issues, opinions, art and poetry, local politics, African languages and youth related content such as youth entrepreneurship, in major South African cities such as Johannesburg and Cape Town.

We used to operate soley in Cape Town for many years and have recently relocated to Johannesburg. We wish to create further awareness of our existence and activities through expansion in Johannesburg. In time we wish to serve both our Cape Town and Johannesburg audiences whilst also looking to expand to other major cities.

Mission-Vision-Purpose:

Vision

We strive to become a staple media platform for young South Africans in the near future, across the country, where they will access our platforms for the latest on engaging written and visual content in indigenous African languages concerning youth politics, art and poetry, youth entrepreneurial initiatives and youth issues in general

Purpose

In a nutshell, our purpose as an organisation is to provide a voice for the youth, in any African language they desire, whilst allowing themselves to express their political and personal views on our platform without fear or judgement and provide exposure for their entrepreneurial activities.
