“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
Who is Vernac News?
The answer to this question is not one that is easily summarized but can be a likened to the sounds, feelings, tastes, smells and the versions of “home” we hope to bring ourselves closer to as a South African society.
It is a family which is caring and nurturing and represents what is currently a microcosm of an ideal society where the celebration of the constructs of yourself are embraced and translated to an environment that not only breeds an understanding of cultures but also provides a healthy and safe space for engagement about societal issues in an accessible way. We are rooted in our approach of decolonizing the parts of our “blackness” that have been used as a gauge of intellectualism within social and academic spaces but to further use it as a tool of driving us towards our vision of unity through our languages.
We are Vernac News and we write what we like!
